Oh my goodness. I am over-the-moon excited with where my 2017 is headed so far. I’m already just a few weddings away from being completely booked for the year, but more importantly, every single couple whose love stories I am documenting are amazing, unique, and one-of-a-kind. I can’t believe that I am so privileged to make a living getting to know and work with such wonderful brides and grooms. I am truly in the people and relationships business! Case in point: Laura and Rhett – and today, I’m so excited to share their Dallas engagement photos in Highland Park and Klyde Warren Park!
I met with Laura a couple of months ago at Coffeehouse Cafe to discuss her upcoming wedding at Christ Episcopal Church and the Scottish Rite Cathedral, both gorgeous venues. We instantly connected and had so much fun talking about hers and her groom-to-be’s love story as well as their vision for their October wedding in Dallas. I just know it’s going to be stunning!
Klyde Warren Park and Prather Park (in the Highland Park area) were the perfect backdrops for these Dallas engagement photos. Laura and Rhett wanted a classic and timeless look to their photos, and we definitely were able to achieve that! The bride-to-be wore a green lace dress and her groom-to-be wore a blue suit – I loved how the colors complemented one another! For their second outfit, the two went a bit more casual and wore cowboy boots. Laura also accessorized with a special gifted necklace from her aunt.
I loved spending time with Laura and Rhett while exploring Highland Park and Klyde Warren Park for their engagement photos. They did an amazing job at their session, and I can’t wait for their wedding day! In the meantime, read on to learn more about their love story!
Tell me how you first met? (Ha, that rhymes!)
“Rhett’s fraternity brother had been playing match maker for months. I was hearing that Rhett was the sweetest guy and just my type while Rhett had been shown a picture and thought I was cute. We finally met at a mixer and we were immediately hooked.”
Please share your proposal story!
“A long time ago we had talked about how we wanted a private proposal. We had planned a fun fair day and were getting ready to head out, but first, coffee. He set out our favorite mugs and managed to sneak the ring box down into my cup. I went to pour myself some and when I picked up the mug there was the box waiting for me. He had been patiently waiting for me to find it and when I did he got down on one knee and said all the right things. I said yes, he slipped the ring on my finger, and we spent a quiet day at the fair where only we knew. It was the perfect day.”
What are you most excited about on your big day?
Laura: “I love our locations! Christ Episcopal Church has been my family’s church for several years, [and] Rhett and I have made it our home. It has been around since 1921 and it is an Arts and Crafts style with beautiful wood and stained glass windows. The reception will be at the Dallas Scottish Rite Cathedral. My father is an active member and my grandfather had received his 50 year cap. I love the history and am excited to celebrate in such a special place!”
Rhett: “I think I am most excited to bring all of those close to us together to celebrate. I have a very tight knit family and since I moved from Houston 8 years ago, it has been harder to see everybody in one place. Family means everything and I am excited to bring our families into one place to celebrate the start of our lives together.”
Do you have any tips or advice for other couples about to have engagement photos taken?
“Be prepared to have a fun time! Whispering those inside jokes to make your partner laugh are just the thing to help you look natural. Also, being engaged is something you only get to do for a short time. Enjoy the moments!”
How was your overall engagement session experience?
“After booking our initial date we had a conflict come up and Emily was very understanding and was able to quickly help us find a date to reschedule. She worked hard scouting and selecting locations- they were perfect! The session was a lot of fun. Emily kept us laughing and made us feel comfortable from start to finish. Excited to share our special day with her!”
