I have been itching to get these two in front of my lens, and at long last the day is here! After a couple of rescheduled dates (and a bit of a weather scare), I am thrilled to share Katie and Alex’s
Highland Park engagement photos!
This engagement session was filled with laughter, fun, and some beautiful blooms around Highland Park! This part of Dallas is made up of gorgeous homes and parks that have classic landscaping and nooks with elegant architecture. The azaleas were in full show and provided a perfect backdrop to Katie and Alex’s adorable interaction. Katie and Alex had spent a good amount of time in this part of town, so it was a particularly area for them.
I was so impressed with how comfortable Katie and Alex truly were in front of a camera! Of course they looked wonderful, but their chemistry and effortless manner about one another made for gorgeous images. Their ability to laugh together and just enjoy each other’s presence made my job a blast!
You wouldn’t guess it from these photos, but some terrible weather was predicted on this day! We made the decision to move their engagement session up two hours earlier to avoid the evening storms. What a perfect choice this turned out to be! Heavy thunderstorms and hail rolled into the DFW Metroplex as soon as we wrapped up! Everyone made it home safely and we ended up with absolutely stunning images!
I cannot wait for Katie and Alex’s big day at Las Colinas Country Club! In the meantime, enjoy some of my favorites from their romantic Highland Park engagement session, and learn more about them below!
How did you two meet?
Katie: “Alex and I met for the first time during the “shake your neighbor’s hand” part of church, but really connected later that evening at our young adult ministry’s Super Bowl party. About halfway through the game, I went up to “get a snack” (in other words, go talk to the cute boy in the kitchen) and Alex and I struck up a conversation that lasted the rest of the game.”
How did he propose?
Katie: “Alex had schemed with a few of my friends to schedule a “girls’ night” with me one Saturday evening, but instead of taking me to the restaurant, they took me to SMU – my alma mater! We pulled into SMU, and I knew this was not a girls’ night when I saw Alex dressed very handsomely in his suit. He walked me to the top of the Boulevard (SMU’s iconic main street), saying sweet things along the way, and got down on one knee and pulled out a ring! We had a moment to celebrate our new status as a couple before my parents came walking down the Boulevard, having surprised me all the way from Houston! However, the surprises didn’t end there! Then, the Abrahams, all the way from Pittsburgh, come walking down the Boulevard too! We then spent the rest of the night with our two families together celebrating the union to come.”
Tell me about the details you’re most excited about for your upcoming wedding!
Katie: “The most important details are the guests, of course! We’re really excited to be with all of our guests celebrating! It is a rare opportunity that all of our closest friends and family members are in one place for a night, so we really want to take in that moment while presenting ourselves for the first time as a married couple.”
Do you have any tips or advice for other couples about to have engagement photos taken?
Katie: “Have a few cheesy tag lines to say to your partner as you’re posing while staring into each other’s eyes…it’ll make for some great laughing shots!”
Describe the perfect date night!
Katie: “Alex and I love going out and trying new restaurants, but then always want to retreat back to the apartment at the end of dinner for a movie or Netflix. We’re both introverts, so solitude (with each other of course) is the perfect way to decompress and enjoy each other’s company after a hectic week.”
Tell me one interesting/unique/funny thing about one another!
Katie: “Alex has a hard time throwing out food…if he has a just a bite of food left, you bet that he’ll store it away!”
Alex: “Katie doesn’t like her feet touching the carpet when she brushes her teeth, so she sits on the bed to do it!”
