If you’ve ever heard someone use the word “effervescent,” you’ve probably done one of the following: 1) nodded, stayed silent, and then discreetly took your phone out to look up the definition, or 2) thought they sounded super pretentious. Or maybe…both! Perhaps then I’m writing my own fate as I start out this blog post using the word “effervescent,” – but allow me time to redeem myself by explaining that the moment I met gorgeous Kathryn, suddenly that word made complete and absolute sense.
Tall and elegantly built, Kathryn is as beautiful on the inside as she is outside. She possesses a radiant spirit that exudes joy to all around her with a contagious energy. Her laugh is infectious and her smile can overcome the gloomiest of days. Maybe these are just some of the traits that drew the handsome David to Kathryn! David is on the quieter side with eyes that bespeak emotional intelligence and a keen awareness of those around him. He is incredibly perceptive and smart – quick to decipher and slow to respond. But oh, see how he loves his bride.
Witnessing Kathryn and David together on their wedding day was just as visually fulfilling as it was soul-lifting. The two look like royalty together – Kathryn, with her bright blue eyes and her long, chestnut hair; David, with his understated princely features and almost Grecian good looks. They could honestly be ancient statues with the way they compliment each other in timeless elegance. However, what is most striking is the interaction between the pair. They are so tuned into one another, and are able to anticipate one another’s needs before the other even asks. I noted on several occasions David actively looking for ways to serve and care for his precious bride. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Love your wife as Christ loved the church,” which seems to be engraved forever on David’s heart.
Having known Kathryn and David for a few years now (we met while working together at a luxury apartment community), I am so excited to have been given the honor to photograph their beautiful peacock inspired wedding at the Grand Bohemian in Asheville, NC. No detail was left undone, with flourishes of feathers and lights adorning the ceremony and reception site. Friends and family gathered into the Grand Bohemian’s ballroom to create an atmosphere of joy, love, and support. There was not a single soul that was anything less than elated to witness the pair join in holy matrimony! As a matter of fact, Kathryn says: “Besides obviously getting to marry my best friend and the love of my life, my favorite part of the day was getting to see family and friends that I haven’t seen in years and getting to spend a wonderful night of dancing and dining with all of them!” (Girl, you sure did dance the night away!)
Kathryn had a very specific vision in mind when planning her wedding day, aiming for a romantic and elegant feel with a touch of vintage. “My biggest challenge I faced when planning my wedding day was trying to find someone who could visualize the centerpieces and peacock theme I wanted for the reception. As soon as I found Alan at Blossoms, I knew everything was going to be a breeze from then on.”
I absolutely love it when brides and grooms feel comfortable letting loose on the dance floor and take the opportunity to enjoy themselves! Kathryn shared, “My FAVORITE moment of the day was our first dance as husband and wife. David and I learned some of the basic dances: waltz & foxtrot for his sister’s wedding in 2011. We finally got to put those moves to use!” They looked SO sweet dancing together – I thought I was looking at a one of those music boxes with a royal couple spinning ’round and ’round!
Not only did I love getting swept up in the emotion of the day and capturing moments as they unfolded, but I also felt welcomed as a member of their family! Both Kathryn and David’s parents were so very welcoming, and made my job that much more enjoyable! Hugs were exchanged all around, and it was a little sad leaving the reception that evening! However, I simply took that love and joy right back to my own family as I drove back to Columbia that evening.
As a final reminder, Kathryn says, “Don’t let anyone rush you on your wedding day. It is YOUR day and your time to do what makes you happy. Cherish EVERY second and talk to as many people as you can because it all goes by in the blink of an eye!”
