For all the flack that social media tends to get these days, I have fallen in love with the avenues it provides to connect with similar souls. Lots of business owners, such as myself, have started exploring Instagram because of the ability to blend personal and business spheres. I love allowing people to get a glimpse into my little world because of the truly personal nature of my job.

This very aspect of Instagram is exactly how I connected with Emily Magers, an LA-based wedding photographer. She just happened to be one of the many photographers I follow to keep me inspired, and I randomly stumbled across her post in my feed announcing that she was coming to the Carolinas! I might have been one of the first to respond and booked a session with her right away. It had been WAY too long – sad, I know! I contacted Mikel Rumsey to style my hair and makeup, and started planning outfits to make the most of our session. I felt like a million dollars!

The day that we met Emily for our family portrait session, we were so comfortable and natural being ourselves! Austyn really didn’t want to cooperate too much, but Emily actually managed to get some awesome images of just me and Dustin while holding our toddler on her hip! Talk about a super woman!

I rarely have my photo taken by others and usually have a hard time relinquishing control, but I already loved Emily’s work and wasn’t really concerned. Let me just say that the outcome of our images was amazing! I love the dark, film-like quality of her editing, as it’s a style I absolutely love for its emotive look but usually don’t do myself.

Emily was such a delight to work with since we connected on so many different levels. The only negative part about our session was that I knew she’d be going back home to California soon! That’s why I’m thankful for the wonders of social media – now, I can look forward to following Emily’s future work!
