Alyssa and David: A Summer Flippen Park Engagement Session

October 25, 2018

Alyssa and David

Y’all! Texas right now is having an identity crisis! It has been one of the rainiest seasons we’ve experienced in a long time – and today is particularly wet, dreary, and cold! I am currently working through emails and questionnaires for upcoming November weddings – Alyssa and David’s big day being one of them! These two are tying the knot at Ashton Gardens, and I realized that it was about time to share their Summer Flippen Park engagement session here on the blog. Y’all can get the chance to learn more about them in the meantime, AND we can look at photos from the beautiful summer that we had just a few months back!

To say I am honored to know Alyssa and David would be a vast understatement. Alyssa and I had exchanged emails and talked on the phone long before their engagement session, so I felt like I truly knew her before we got together in person. It was great to get to know Dave also, and when I say these two complement each other, I mean it – they are just perfect together. Alyssa is an ANGEL and has the most beautiful smile. Dave is handsome, kind, and funny – devoted to serving and loving his sweet bride. We spent the afternoon laughing, talking about their love story, and dreaming about their big day coming up at Ashton Gardens. Although the primary goal was to capture in photos this special season of life for Alyssa and David, the icing on the cake for me was getting to spend time investing in one of the sweetest and most genuine couples I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.

But don’t just take it from me – read more about Alyssa and Dave below, and view some of my top favorites from their summer Flippen Park engagement session!

Alyssa and Dave – I will see y’all OH SO SOON! :)

How did you two meet?

“We met in law school at OU during our second year! David took me to a museum for our first date to see a special exhibit because I love Greek and Roman Art.”

How did he propose?

“David proposed during a trip to Maui! We took a helicopter tour of the island, and at one point the pilot landed for us to take pictures and stretch our legs. David’s Aunt and Uncle were in on the proposal and tricked me into thinking we were just taking some pictures of the view. Then, David asked me to turn around and surprised me with a sweet promise and a beautiful ring!”

What has you MOST excited when you think about your big day?

“I think we’re both most excited to have all our friends and family in one place. DFW is central for most everyone, but so many people we care about are scattered across the country. Also, David loves cake so he’s beyond pumped to eat all the different flavors!”

What kind of “feel” were you going for during your engagement session?

“During our engagement session we really just wanted it to feel natural and intimate. Those who know David realize how incredible of a person he is – loving, caring, and funny. He hardly does anything for himself, so having the opportunity to show off how handsome and special he is was such a wonderful part of the session. It was really fun to dress up and embrace this season of being engaged.”

Do you have any advice for other couples about to have their engagement photos taken?

“Trust Emily! She’s so jovial and easy to talk to. She immediately put us at ease when we started taking pictures. Everything felt so natural and she kept us laughing the whole time. Oh, and don’t keep a bottle of champagne in your car when it’s over 90 degrees…”

How was your overall session experience?

“10/10 (or rather, 100/10) – seriously, we can’t thank you enough for how special the whole evening was. It was one of the best moments of our engagement so far. David had such a great time and is so excited for you to shoot our wedding (as am I!). Thank you for making it a night to remember and getting us ready for our wedding pictures!”

Share something funny or interesting about your significant other!

“David will break into a sweat if he eats anything (even mildly) spicy – sometimes even ketchup! And he LOVES candles. I despise pickles – absolutely cannot stand them!”
