In some form or fashion, we all love control – don’t we? We want to know exactly what will happen and magically predict outcomes largely due to the sense of comfort that comes along with it. There’s no better example of this than a bride in the midst of planning a wedding day! As a Dallas wedding photographer, I work with couples who make every attempt to select a date with the least chance of undesirable weather…but sometimes it’s simply unavoidable. I would never wish for rain on any couple’s wedding day, but does happen. Fortunately, and the way that we react as wedding professionals can make a huge impact on the couple’s experience for the better!
You might remember Cassie and Garrett’s gorgeous Winspear Opera House engagement session filled with a classic Dallas city backdrop and golden hour skyline view. I’ve had the privilege to learn more about them over the past several months as we worked to plan logistics for their big day. Their playful personalities and admiration for one another set them apart as a truly special couple. I also have grown to respect their ability to stay connected even in the midst of a long-distance engagement. I know from first hand experience how difficult that is, but Cassie and Garrett intentionally chose to grow closer together in spite of the miles that separate them. Having something as exciting as a wedding day to look forward to certainly helps, but I attribute most of it to the deliberate work and effort Cassie and Garrett put into becoming better partners for one another. What an inspiration for other couples going through the same!
Back to the weather – as Cassie and Garrett’s wedding at The Orchard crept closer and closer, the cold and rainy forecast became more of a certainty. Cassie reached out the week of with a hint of nerves that were certainly understandable. I did my best to assure her that the best approach was to remain calm and flexible which she absolutely took in stride. On the day of the wedding, we were so happy that all we experienced was light rain at most. The cold temperatures were the worst of it all – and honestly, they were so amped up and full of excitement that they didn’t even realize how freezing it is! (If they did…they didn’t show it!)
Because of Cassie and Garrett’s focus on the true meaning of their wedding day, everything went as smoothly as we could have hoped. And at the end of the day, they were MARRIED and experienced a day full of joy, celebration, and delight, which means we’ve done our job.
Cassie and Garrett, congratulations on finally becoming HUSBAND and WIFE! From all of us at the ECP Team, we are beyond thrilled for you both and cannot thank you enough for allowing us to share and document your memories!
