a romantic white rock lake engagement session in dallas, texas
I’ve got the sweetest White Rock Lake Engagement Session to share with you! As a Dallas wedding photographer, I am always looking for outdoor engagement locations with soft, natural lighting. White Rock Lake is definitely one of my favorite spots in Dallas for portraits! No two engagement sessions I photograph there look the same. I knew it would be the perfect fit for Brooke and Tyler’s engagement portraits and just love the way their sunny, summery session turned out!

I loved having the opportunity to meet Brooke and Tyler – they are fun, easy going, and love to laugh! Plus, I think we can all agree that they are super photogenic! Not only that, but they have fantastic energy that makes my job as a Dallas wedding and engagement photographer exciting and easy. But enough from me – why don’t you take a moment to learn about these two in their own words?
How did you two meet?
Brooke: “We met in May of 2014 at the Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown Dallas. We had an instant connection, and ended up talking for so long our friends left us! Tyler asked for my phone number, and took me to dinner the following weekend. We spent the rest of the summer going to Texas Rangers games, watching the World Cup and getting to know each others friends. The rest is history!”
How did he propose?
Brooke: “We were visiting my family in Fort Lauderdale over Christmas, and we planned to meet my family for lunch at the beach. Tyler spent all afternoon golfing with my dad and brother, so we were running late. We finally got to the restaurant (I was “hangry” at this point), and found we had an hour wait for our table. To kill some time, Tyler and I walked out onto the Deerfield Beach Pier beside the restaurant. We hadn’t taken more than 10 steps onto the pier before Tyler began slowing down, and looked as if he were about to give me some bad news. My heart dropped. But before I could ask him what was wrong, he got down on a knee and started to laugh. I think he said “Will you marry me?”, and I think I said “Of course!”. It was kind of a blur. My family had been watching from the table with champagne and appetizers (there was no hour wait), and we spent the afternoon telling stories about how they kept the secret from me for so long! It was perfect.”
Tell me about the details you’re most excited about for your upcoming wedding!
Brooke: “Our wedding is in the Florida Keys! We are getting married in our favorite place, Islamorada, on the beach. We are definitely most excited for our family and friends from Texas to see “our place”, and see where we have been spending so much time!”
What kind of look were you going for?
Brooke: “We wanted to be ourselves. We are pretty low-key, so there was no stressing outfit coordination. The most important thing to us was that we could be relaxed and have a great time.”
Do you have any tips or advice for other couples about to have engagement photos taken?
Brooke: “We recommend each wearing something you’d feel comfortable in. If you are unsure if your dress is too short, or if your guys jacket is too tight, don’t wear it. You don’t want to spend your session worrying about how your clothes look. Enjoy the experience with each other.”
How was your overall session experience?
Brooke: “We had a blast at our session. We were nervous about posing for pictures… but Emily kept us laughing the entire time, and we felt completely at-ease. We would do it again in a heartbeat!”
Tell us one interesting thing about one another!
Brooke: “Tyler is the guy that’s good at everything. He played collegiate basketball, runs marathons, plays the guitar and can build or fix just about anything. He is really talented. For one of his birthdays, I bought him a tennis racket so that he could learn to play. The first time he ever played, he beat me! I’ve been playing my whole life! We are best friends but can still be pretty competitive with one another; he has definitely taught me how to be a good sport – when I let him win!”
Tyler: “Brooke is the sweetest, smartest and most fun person I know. She is always the first person to offer a helpful hand when someone is in need. She is always up for watching sports, grilling out or being outdoors at the lake with me. She loves making people laugh and finding humor in the smallest things… I knew she was the one early on when she cracked open a beer can during college football season and jokingly told me it was one of her favorite sounds!”
