I have the privilege of meeting some pretty awesome people with my job as a wedding photographer. Sabrina and Josh are one such couple… and boy, has it been amazing to get to know them!
When I first ventured into wedding photography just over a year ago, I placed a couple of ads on Craigslist advertising my services and also being very honest about the fact that I was new to weddings. I had experience as a portrait photographer, but I absolutely loved photographing couples and wanted to steer my business more into that area. I priced accordingly (hint: much lower than I do now) and waited for a bite…and waited…and waited. That’s when an email from Sabrina popped into my inbox!
Mine and Sabrina’s situations were perfectly orchestrated for one another. While I was up front about being such a newbie – hence the low pricing, Sabrina was also very up front about the fact that she had a very certain budget. This, combined with the fact that we just clicked at our first meeting, made us a spot-on match for one another. I honestly think it was God’s provision on both of us, because our circumstances ended up working for the benefit of one another!
To complete this story, I ended up with just the right amount of experience for my portfolio, Sabrina ended up with her big day being captured with quality images, and we topped it off by becoming friends. This is so important, because Sabrina and her husband Josh were some of the first to believe in me as a photographer and an individual. Without them, I am unsure if I would be where I am today, because more couples ended up coming to me as a result of the images I was able to show from their wedding. I truly thank God for this couple!
Since their wedding day, Sabrina has been one of my biggest cheerleaders. I talk a lot about taking the time to really value these sorts of people – those who help spread your name through social media and among their friends, and champion your work. They are a huge asset to your business because of the reputation they will help you build, and also because they provide a pick-me-up if and when you ever encounter a bad shoot (yes, they happen), or a client issue. I actually have a folder full of emails with praises and compliments…just in case I’m having a bad day!
To thank Sabrina and Josh for their support, I offered them a complimentary anniversary session at the State Steps where Josh proposed. It was so much fun catching up and seeing how this incredible couple has grown! They celebrate one year on November 9th – just a striking reminder of how fast time flies by, and how sweet life is alongside the one you love.
Congratulations on (almost) one year of marriage, Sabrina and Josh! So blessed to know you two – thank you for everything!
“Coffee is all well and good, but I would rather have your lips kiss me awake every morning” – on the mug Josh used to propose to Sabrina!!

So lovely! I absolutely love the variety of locations and poses you were able to get for them. And I totally understand doing the whole Craigslist ad your first year. Been there! Every body’s got to start somewhere! Your portfolio is beautiful though! You’re way past Craigslist now. :)
